Bowling Green, Ohio — Construction has commenced for an $81 million student housing project on the campus of Bowling Green State University. Capstone Development Corp. will be developing a total of 1,318 beds in two communities as part of a public/private partnership with the school. The project team includes architects Design Group and Design Collective as well as general contractor The Lathrop Company.

The first building, known as The South Central Community, will contain 667 beds primarily for first-year students. Most of the units will be set up with two students per unit with a private bathroom. The second building, known as The Northwest Community, will contain a total of 651 beds in four-bedroom/two-bathroom suites.

The communities will be constructed with multiple wings that will establish communities of 40 to 50 students. The wings will be connected by glass links that will also provide small lounges and study spaces. The lower level of each building will contain larger communities and study spaces, multi-purpose rooms, a game area, a community kitchen and laundry facilities.

Completion for the project is expected in August 2011. After that, Castone's in-house property management arm, Capstone On-Campus Management, will oversee day-today operations of the communities, with Bowling Green providing student life and residential programming. The project is Phase I of a long-term housing renewal plan for the university.
