Georgia Southern Renovates 1936 Dorm
Statesboro, Ga. — Charles Perry Partners Inc. (CPPI) and Lavender & Associates have been awarded the construction contract for the Sanford Hall renovation project at Georgia Southern University. The $6.5 million contract will provide a facility for the communications arts department. The building's existing structural system will be modified to accommodate column-free classrooms and student-operated radio and television studios. All mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems will be replaced, and the building will become fully ADA accessible. The team is focused on maintaining the historical style and scope of the building during the renovations.
Sanford Hall was built in 1936 as a men's dormitory. It was modified in 1977 to a suite style dorm and was closed in May 2011. Since then, the dorm has been empty. The renovation is in line with the campus' plan to convert buildings at the north end of campus that were once dormitories into office, research and classroom facilities.
