Carnegie Mellon Converting Former Hospice to Student Housing

Pittsburgh — Carnegie Mellon University is converting the former Forbes Hospice to student housing.

Pittsburgh —
Carnegie Mellon University will have additional student housing available in the fall as it completes the conversion of the former Forbes Hospice to student housing. The university acquired the four-story building located at 4700 Fifth Ave. in May for $7.5 million. The seller was West Penn Allegheny Health System, which had been operating the Forbes Hospice out of the building before deciding to relocate the facility.

The building will house 92 students beginning in the fall and expects to increase capacity by fall 2011. Local reports indicate the school is currently seeking a zoning variance with the City of Pittsburgh to increase the number of students that can be housed in the building.
