Syracuse, N.Y. —
Education Realty Trust (ERT) has closed on the construction financing for a new student housing project at the State University of New York’s (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. Expected to break ground soon, the project will contain 454 beds in a mixture of suite-style and apartment units. Amenities will include multipurpose common areas, a lounge, a computer lab, bike storage and laundry facilities. Given the College’s focus on the environment, the project will contain several sustainable features, including a design that maximizes daylighting, natural ventilation, the use of recycled construction materials, rainwater harvesting, low-flow fixtures and natural landscaping. ERT subsidiary Allen & O’Hara Development Co. will design and develop the project. Upon the project’s completion, which is expected in 2011, ERT will also provide property management services for a 10-year term.
