Gilbane’s 257 ThayerProvidence, R.I. — Construction is underway on 257 Thayer, a 267-bed community, developed by Gilbane Development Company. The property will cater to undergraduate and graduate students attending Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). It opens January 2015, and according to Gilbane, it is the first off-campus, purpose-built student housing community in Providence. 257 Thayer will be leased and managed by Asset Campus Housing.

The four-story community, located in the College Hill area, will be a multi-purpose facility that includes retail space on Thayer Street’s frontage and an underground, heated parking garage with 75 spaces.

257 Thayer has been designed as a sustainable living environment and utilizes eco-minded choices in construction and sustainable management, including paint with low VOCs and low emissions, electric car charging stations, bike storage, and a solar-energy collection system that will provide up to 10 percent of the building’s power.

Community amenities include a clubhouse room with high definition TVs and gaming tables; group study rooms; fitness center; bike storage; high-speed internet and WIFI; and 24-hour resident services.
