Flagstaff, Ariz. — Pilot program a response to many student requests over the years.

Flagstaff, Ariz. — Northern Arizona University has announced a gender inclusive housing (GIH) pilot program for the 2012-2013 school year. The on-campus, special-interest housing study is intended to provide a greater sense of belonging in NAU’s residential communities for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, questioning and gender variant students.

The gender-neutral housing will allow any combination of roommate genders in Gabaldon Hall, a suite-style residence. NAU’s office of residence life has received informal requests from individual students and student organizations for housing options to accommodate the housing preferences of transgender, and other, students over the years, according to the program’s Web site.
