Newark, N.J. — The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the construction of the Warren Street Village project. The village will be a 3-acre, mixed-use residential housing complex that will be completed in fall 2013. Financing will be provided through tax-exempt bonds.
The village is an $80 million project that will add 600 beds to NJIT’s existing inventory of residential housing. It will also include a new restaurant, convenience store and fitness center for the university community. On-campus housing has been a challenge for NJIT, which has had to triple-up students in double-occupancy rooms and lease off-campus space, and enrollment is expected to rise within the next year, according to a press release.
The Village project is the first of four phases of development that are part of the 23-acre Campus Gateway Development project. Jones Lang LaSalle was selected to serve as master developer.
