Williamsburg, Va. — The Williamsburg Planning Commission has approved plans for the construction of a new multi-use, student housing community that will serve The College of William & Mary. Currently known as the Triangle Property, the site consists of three properties located along Richmond Road, adjacent to the Thiemes House. Construction for the $6.5 million project will include a three-story building that will contain 14 apartments for students on the upper two floors and retail space on the ground floor. The building will house up to 56 upperclassmen and provide 10,634 square feet of student-specific retail. The William & Mary Real Estate Foundation owns the property and will develop it. Boynton Rothschild Rowland Architects will serve as the general contractor, and Hourigan Construction will be the general contractor. Construction is slated to begin in July, with completion expected in July 2011. Upon completion, the Real Estate Foundation will lease the retail space, and the school’s Office of Residence Life will operate the student housing component.
