Enid and Tonkawa, Okla. — Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) has broken ground on two new residence halls on the community college’s Enid and Tonkawa, Okla., campuses. Both halls will contain 84 beds each and are scheduled to open in July 2015.

Oklahoma City-based Frankfurt-Short-Bruza Associates is the architectural firm engaged by the college to design the new construction. Conway, Ark.-based Nabholz has been selected to serve as construction managers and will begin the bid process for building projects in July and August to move the project forward at a cost not to exceed $5 million on each campus, according to Jason Johnson, NOC vice president for student affairs and Residential Housing Committee chair.

“There have been a lot of changes since the existing NOC dorms were constructed and student expectations have changed,” Johnson says. “So, in designing the new residential housing, new technologies and the balance between privacy and community were major considerations.” Johnson added that the locations were determined after a feasibility study was conducted earlier this year by Cyntergy AEC and the results presented to the NOC Board of Regents to identify the best potential locations for the new dorms.
