Dearborn, Mich. — Urbcam Michigan LLC has added an additional 63 loft units to the first phase of the Union at Dearborn, its student housing property near the campus of the University of Michigan in Dearborn.

The Lofts at the Union at Dearborn will include 99 beds, and are managed by UCC Management Co. The community serves the nearby university as well as Henry Ford Community College and other Wayne County higher learning institutions.

The Lofts were retrofitted into an existing building that once housed an engineering testing facility for Ford Motor Co. Construction of The Lofts was started in December 2014 and was completed in time to transfer 65 residents from the first phase of the facility on August 11.

DeGrandis Contracting LLC of Ypsilanti was the general contractor on the project and Scott Bowers of Bowers & Associates of Ann Arbor was the architect. The new development brings the total beds for The Union at Dearborn including the first phase to 604 beds in 208 units.

The Lofts were 100 percent pre-leased before opening. Residents of The Lofts will have access to the same amenities available to residents of the first phase including a 24 hour fitness gym, computer lab, use of the Victors Den for recreation and study, an indoor basketball court, a 24-hour onsite market and a recently installed outdoor sand volleyball court. Rents at The Lofts are all-inclusive, covering all utilities including cable and internet, complete furnishings, a flat-screen TV and all major appliances. In addition, one- and two-bedroom units in The Lofts include a washer and dryer.
