Tucson City Council Considers Legal Action Over Planned Residence Hall at the University of Arizona

by Katie Sloan

Tucson, Ariz. — The Tucson City Council is considering whether or not to sue the University of Arizona over a proposed 1,000-bed residence hall located north of campus, according to reports by the Arizona Daily Star.

The council met yesterday to discuss whether or not it believes the university has the legal authority to ignore local zoning laws, even if the proposed multi-story residence hall and secondary structures are not in the university’s planning boundaries. The report further states that one of the two city blocks that would be occupied by the residence hall is owned by American Campus Communities.
