Irvine, Calif. — Hensel Phelps and Mithun are building and designing the multi-purpose buildings.
Irvine, Calif. — The University of California, Irvine (UCI), has selected Hensel Phelps, in partnership with architect Mithun, to design and construct the Mesa Court expansion, a student housing project. The award was secured following a three-month-long design-build competition. The $92 million Mesa Court expansion project will encourage interaction among students and provide a living-learning environment for students, faculty and staff.
Demolition has begun and new construction will commence in October. The project is anticipated to achieve LEED Platinum and will consist of three new concrete structures each standing five stories plus a podium. These new residence halls total 780 beds and 250,000 gross square feet and will include ancillary space such as study rooms, computer labs, great room, fitness center, recreational room, student office space, kitchenettes and laundry facilities. A dining facility has also been incorporated into the design that will service 2,500 students.
