Oglethorpe University Partners With Gables Residential For New Apartments

Atlanta — A mixed-use luxury apartment project will open in August 2015 on land the company is leasing from the university.

Oglethorpe University and Gables Residential, headquartered in Atlanta, have partnered to construct Gables Oglethorpe, a mixed-use luxury apartment community on seven acres of land that Gables Residential will lease from Oglethorpe via a long-term land lease agreement. Gables Residential will construct, operate and maintain the new mixed-use community, to be called Gables Oglethorpe, which will be comprised of two four-story residential buildings offering 374 apartment units, consisting of studios, and one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Gables Oglethorpe will include 6,000 square feet of classroom space, to be used by Oglethorpe University. New pedestrian pathways will offer secured, gated access for students between the Gables development and Oglethorpe’s main campus. Projected to be Earthcraft certified, Gables Oglethorpe is designed by Atlanta-based architects Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio.

“Oglethorpe’s residence halls are near capacity, and we are in need of additional space to accommodate our continued growth,” says Oglethorpe University President Lawrence Schall. “Our partnership with Gables Residential will allow us to fulfill that need as the new community will offer an alternative living choice for our students while shifting the financial risk away from the university.”

The community will open in August 2015.
