Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse University has announced plans to develop two new residence halls after a comprehensive three-year housing review. The first community will be developed at 700 Ostrom Ave. and will offer 450 beds upon completion. Albany, N.Y. — KeyBank Real Estate Capital (KBREC) has secured an $11.1 million refinancing for Astro Apartments, a student housing community located near the State University of New York (SUNY) Albany campus on Washington Avenue. The garden-style property offers fully furnished units in studio, one- and two-bedroom configurations. Built in 1998, the complex is situated on 2.4 acres and is composed of two three-story buildings. Dirk Falardeau and Mark Flanders of KBREC’s commercial mortgage group structured the Freddie Mac, fixed-rate financing. The borrower in the transaction was not disclosed.

The first phase of the two-part project will include a 2,250-bed development dubbed San Benito. The project will be developed on a five-acre site between Mesa Road and Stadium Road, which formerly housed offices for the university’s facilities management, transportation and parking services. West Lafayette, Ind. — Champion Real Estate Co. has acquired Salisbury Campus Apartments, a student housing community located near the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette. The property spans five buildings located at 300, 310 and 318 Salisbury St. and 229 and 235 Littleton St. The community offers 290 beds across 85 units and will be rebranded Victory on Salisbury.
