Vertical construction at the Big Shanty Road site is expected to begin immediately.

Kennesaw, Ga. — A 5.9-acre site on Big Shanty Road in Kennesaw, directly across the street from Kennesaw State University’s new sports complex, has changed hands. Hidden Forest Redevelopment sold the property to Birmingham, Ala.-based Capstone Cos., and vertical construction of a student housing development is scheduled to begin on the property immediately. It is expected to be completed by summer 2012 in time for student occupancy during the 2012-2013 academic year. The off-campus facility will consist of two buildings comprised of 217 units and 804 beds. It will include a pool, breezeways and a connected five-story parking deck. Approximately 8,000 square feet of the 20,000 square feet of retail planned for the development has already been pre-leased to McCray’s Tavern and Blue Moon Pizza. Carter’s Rob Adamson represented the seller of the site, and Carter’s Jack Arnold will be heading up the project’s leasing and development management.
