Tuscaloosa, Ala.
— Memphis, Tenn.-based Education Realty Trust (EDR) and Columbus, Ohio-based Edwards Cos. have raised and donated more than $22,000 to charities involved with tornado relief efforts in Tuscaloosa, home to the University of Alabama. The donations have been received by the University of Alabama (UA) Acts of Kindness Fund and the West Alabama Chamber Foundation, Inc./Tornado Relief Fund. EDR and Edwards Cos. both made corporate donations and also organized a pantry donation and blood drive through the American Red Cross.

“We reached out to our business, development and construction partners and vendors across the country,” says Tom Trubiana, executive vice president and chief investment officer for EDR. “They donated more than $12,000 to local Tuscaloosa charities. It was a very easy sell.”

EDR and Edwards Cos. are joint venture partners at the East Edge collegiate housing development adjacent to the University of Alabama. Edwards Cos. donated $5,000, while Bethesda, Md.-based Clark Construction and Columbus, Ohio-based Red Mortgage Capital each donated $1,000.
