The first phase of the project will contain 310 beds.

Salt Lake City — The groundbreaking will occur Wednesday for the Donna Garff Marriott Honors Residential Scholars Community, a new residence hall for honors students of the University of Utah. The 161,000-square-foot building will be located at the corner of Mario Capecchi and South Campus Drive. Phase I of the project will contain 310 beds in apartment-style units.

Amenities of the dorm include Fireplace Tower, a central commons that will contain a fireplace, study and dining areas, and a convenience store. An exterior plaza will contain grassy recreation areas, a barbecue area and outside furnishings. The first floor of the building will contain two seminar areas, a library, a music room and offices.

Phase I completion is slated for June 2012. At full build-out, the residence hall will contain 1,800 beds.
