View from the Academe: On-Campus Update with Mary DeNiro, ACUHO-I

by Sarah Daniels

Mary DeNiro, CEO and Executive Director of the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I), spoke via video chat with Randy Shearin and Rich Kelley of Student Housing Business to discuss how ACUHO-I is continuing to serve its members by providing a platform for networking and connection in a time of social distancing and cancelled conferences. Virtual roundtables and discussion forums have become essential to DeNiro’s organization, as members reach out to ACUHO-I for guidance or to offer their time and assistance.

Watch Deniro’s brief discussion with Student Housing Business as she describes how motivated student housing professionals are to care for one anothers’ best interests and the best interests of students.

Discussion points cover a number of social distancing and student housing topics:

  • Keeping members engaged remotely
  • Reorienting and de-densifying student housing
  • Cleaning and sanitation concerns for communal spaces
  • Balancing social distancing requirements with the need for community in schools
